WebJul 27, 2007 · My water is Black and liner looks black & burned. We only recommend two algaecides: 1) Chlorine. Yeah, chlorine is still the best. We prefer it in bleach or liquid chlorine (same thing) because it has the least side effects to watch for. 2) Polyquat 60%. WebLast night the water was a blueish turquoise, but was still opaque and very hazy (still couldn't see to the bottom of the shallow end). I added 5 gallons of liquid chlorine ("shock") and instantly the water turned green. I read up on it and it looks like if there is a lot of metal in the water, such as iron, chlorine has this affect.
